The government is planning to allow visitors from Hong Kong and Macau to go visa free from October 1 onwards, joining visitors from Japan and South Korea.
The official announcement will be released soon by the ministry concerned.
A separate statement sent to tour companies by the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism then stated that the US$1,000 cash requirement would be waived for Japan, South Korea, China, Macau and Hong Kong.
However, an August 24 statement issued by the Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Thailand still listed the requirement for all Japan and South Korean tourists to hold $1,000 in cash upon entering Myanmar.
